How we compare travel eSIM plans.

1. Sources

The Europe calculator considers three providers: Airalo, Saily and Yesim. Airalo uses its official product feed; Saily uses its public partner catalogue with the checked storefront pricing package; Yesim uses exact fixed-plan pages and its official public web-client API for reviewed local plans. Visitor requests read saved, validated snapshots rather than scraping these sources.

Our primary sources are official provider product feeds, provider websites, and provider help or payment pages. When a guide discusses a local operator, we link to that operator’s official tourist-plan page.

We do not copy prices from an unaffiliated comparison site and present them as current provider data.

2. What counts as a comparable plan

• The destination or stated regional coverage must include the country being compared.
• Fixed-data rows are matched to the displayed allowance: for example 5 GB is compared with 5 GB, not with 3 GB or 10 GB.
• The 15-day and 30-day controls prefer an exact duration. If no exact fixed-data duration exists, the table may show the shortest available plan that covers the selected trip and labels its real validity.
• Unlimited plans are compared separately because their daily high-speed allowance and fair-use rules can differ.
• A dash means we do not have a sufficiently comparable current plan for that cell. It does not prove the provider sells no other plan.

3. Price badges and route results

The “lowest checked price” badge applies only to that data-and-duration row. It is not a claim that the provider is always cheapest or best. The final choice can depend on hotspot support, throttling, local number availability, payment method, installation timing, and network coverage.

On the Europe route planner, the best verified total is the lowest complete positive USD total among the checked options from Airalo, Saily and Yesim. Ties prefer fewer purchases, then fewer providers. A complete option may be one regional eSIM, several purchases from one provider, or a mixed combination. Each purchase keeps its own allowance; separate balances cannot be pooled.

When a mixed combination saves less than $5 and a complete single-provider option is simpler, we may recommend the simpler option with its exact convenience premium. The cheaper mixed total stays visible. At savings of $5 or more, the cheaper combination remains recommended. This is a minimum within the reviewed sample, not a claim about the whole market.

The planner has two explicit data modes. “Estimate for me” applies the selected Light, Everyday, or Heavy daily rate to the trip length and rounds the result up. “Set my data” uses the traveller's whole-trip GB budget exactly as entered, within the same shared 1–150 GB planner range. Changing usage does not change a manual budget, and changing stop days does not replace it.

The full-route regional option must cover the full trip length and the effective total data requirement from the selected mode. The traveller assigns whole mobile-use days to ordered stops; their sum always equals the trip length. For country packages and regional packages covering consecutive stops, the effective total is allocated in proportion to covered days and each matching requirement is rounded up to a whole GB. We compare complete combinations by total USD price, preferring fewer purchases when totals tie. A regional package is eligible only when its exact package ID and all countries it covers are verified. Fixed packages can add up to more purchased data than the estimate or user-set budget; that extra quota is not presented as expected consumption.

For example, a manual 10 GB budget over 14 days split into 10 days in Spain and 4 in Portugal produces matching requirements of 8 GB and 3 GB after proportional rounding. The total budget remains 10 GB; those two requirements are not a claim that the traveller will consume 11 GB, and the allowances of the two purchased country packages remain separate.

A border day is counted once in the stop chosen by the traveller. This is a day-level planning convention, not a calculation of activation times, and the current planner does not model repeated visits to the same country.

The reviewed Saily and Yesim sample contains fixed-data plans only: Saily local, regional and global plans; Yesim Europe & UK plus reviewed local plans. It is not every regional family, promotion or plan sold by these providers. New Saily and Yesim unlimited plans, first-time deals, coupon prices and multi-SIM discounts are excluded. Existing Airalo unlimited matching remains separate under its established rules.

Unlimited is never converted into an invented infinite requirement. When a real unlimited product is eligible, the planner shows its confirmed validity and the provider's stated limitations where available; fair-use, throttling, and hotspot terms still need to be checked before purchase.

4. Refresh schedule and failures

Automated destination-price refreshes run every three days. A successful refresh stores a dated snapshot. If a source is temporarily unavailable, the page can retain the last known snapshot rather than replacing it with invented data; the visible source status and date indicate which state is being shown.

Europe sources expire independently: prices are fresh for up to 72 hours and usable as last-known for up to 96 hours. Failed refreshes keep the original successful date. Stale, future, incomplete, non-USD or invalid-coverage observations cannot create a candidate. Coverage has its own review date and expiry; a new price does not renew it. If one source is unavailable, the comparison names the sources actually checked and the missing provider could change the minimum.

Provider prices can change between refreshes, and promotions, taxes, account country, and checkout currency can affect the final amount. Always confirm the checkout total before paying.

5. Coverage, speed, and local operators

The Europe route planner compares Airalo Eurolink and EU + UK regional packages as well as country packages. Their coverage is checked separately on the official product cards and matched to verified catalogue package IDs. EU + UK covers 28 checked countries and excludes Switzerland and Turkey; Eurolink has a separately checked list of 41 countries. The lowest eligible price is selected only after checking every country covered by that package, its allowance, and its validity.

Saily coverage belongs to each reviewed SKU, even within the same family: its fixed Europe and unlimited Europe lists differ. Yesim Europe & UK includes Switzerland but excludes Turkey; a Turkey stop needs another verified purchase. Local Yesim coverage for Kosovo, San Marino and Vatican City is unverified. Airalo regional lists use a separate editorial policy without automatic age expiry; their original review dates remain visible. Saily coverage and the separate Yesim regional review expire after 96 hours.

Price is not a network-quality score. A travel eSIM may roam on one or more local networks, and the available network can vary by plan. We cite a named host network only when an official source identifies it. Fair-use limits, hotspot support, 5G availability, and traffic management remain provider terms, not promises from eSIM Trip Plan.

Where useful, such as our Thailand guide, we compare the convenience of buying before departure with official tourist eSIMs from local operators. Local plans are presented separately because they may include a local phone number or registration requirements that make them unlike-for-like.

6. Affiliate links and editorial independence

A route purchase link is available only when the exact plan selection is verified. An unverified target keeps its checked price with an unavailable-link explanation; we do not replace it with a generic landing page. The provider confirms the final plan, price and terms.
